Aviv Dance Studios was founded in 2002 by Nikki Avron, a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer. In August 2003, with the support of the Prince’s Trust, the Aviv Dance Studio in Watford was built and became the home of Aviv Dance. Since then adults and children have benefited from a large range of dance classes from beginner to professional levels with a particular emphasis on commercial or ‘MTV’ dance styles such as Street Jazz and Hip-Hop. Aviv Dance Studios boasts a team of highly qualified teachers each with performing experience in their individual specialist fields.Come along and join in.There are several aspects to the organisation run by director Nikki Avron.
“Learn the latest dance moves to all your favourite Pop / R ‘n’ B tunes in Street Dance and Commercial Jazz … explore dance movement and physical strength to its fullest in Contemporary … get your feet moving and find the rhythm in Tap … get to grips with your technique in Ballet which provides the groundwork for all dance styles and is crucial in achieving high standards in dance.”
Aviv Dance Studios has recently moved premises, and now makes use of the sports block at Watford Boy’s Grammar School. The Watford 90m2 studio is equipped with the latest technology: Harlequin Activity Sprung Floor, mirrors and bars, air conditioning and sound system. Facilities also include a fully equipped gym, changing rooms with showers and a large waiting/reception area with TV.
A variety of classes are available from beginner to advanced levels in Street Dance, Commercial Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Breakdance, Ballet, Contemporary, and Tap.
A team of highly qualified and experienced teachers provides non-syllabus classes constantly offering new and fresh choreography. To find out more please visit the Aviv Dance Studios website, where you can find out information about all of the teaching staff. Nikki assured me that she only employs the best! All of her staff have a background in the industry itself, as well as a passion for teaching.
The school caters for individuals aged 2 plus, with Nikki running tots, teens, and adult classes. (An adult is considered to be anyone aged 16 years+)
There are classes delivered every day of the week, excluding Sundays, when there is no fixed timetable, but when rehearsals or children’s parties may take place.
The timetable can be found on the website, however, Nikki recommends that anyone considering joining classes contacts her on the office number 01923 250000 for a “mini-consultation” beforehand. Office hours are 4pm onwards during the week, and 9.30am-3.30pm on a Saturday.
Adults are able to access classes on a pay as you go basis, with each session costing £6.50, or pay for a block of classes with discounts offered. The structured school offers classes for up to 16 year olds, where individuals are able to pay on a half-termly basis. For 1 / 2 classes the cost is £6.00 per class, and for 3+ classes the cost is £5.50 per class.
As well as the classes run as part of the Studios, Nikki also has two non-profit dance performing companies, which have weekly rehearsals, and perform in the local community, including schools. Nikki runs a senior (15-25 years) dance troop, which has been involved in charity events, such as the “Walk for Chron’s” annual fund-raising event held in Hyde Park, London, and has worked with Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, Mencap, and the Prince’s Trust. Nikki has now also developed a junior dance troop with members aged 8-11 years old. The members of both of these companies have undergone training with Aviv Dance Studios, and Nikki sees the performances offered with these companies as an opportunity to showcase members’ hard work and potential.
Nikki herself has also previously been involved in the Princes Trust programme as a mentor and has been on the fundraising panel at national level. Although Nikki is no longer able to commit the time to what she considers to be a valuable programme she would be available to be a motivational speaker at events/conferences, and to deliver workshops to teenagers to give them a taster in dance. (The cost/fee for this would be dependent upon the nature of the event.)
