Support for disabled children and young people, helping them to access mainstream sports and leisure activities. Free of charge.

Out & About is a charity which enables disabled children and young people to access everyday leisure activities, by providing support to become fully included in their chosen local leisure activity. We also work with leisure providers to increase their skills and confidence and enable them to make their activities more inclusive for everyone. The child or young person is able to choose an activity they want to take part in and a member of the team will go to talk to them about any support they feel they need to be fully included. Each individual will be assigned a trained volunteer or support worker. The organisation are also looking for more volunteers aged 16 years+ to become involved in their work. Sports, swimming, guides and brownies, cubs and scouts, youth clubs, after school clubs… there are loads of activities that our volunteers take part in when supporting disabled children and young people.
Volunteers support disabled children and young people in their chosen leisure activity. The activity may only last a couple of hours a week but it can make a huge difference to the young person and their family.
Any organisations requiring support in catering for the needs of a disabled child or young person will need to complete a referral form. Please contact Paul Smyth for more details. Please note that the local service in Hertfordshire generally caters for 5-13 year olds, with limited funding for 14-18 year olds (Funding ends for this age group March 2010)
